Student Counselling

What is the role of a student counsellor?

The prime function of a counsellor is to give you advice when needed, so that your life at school will be happy and safe. The school counsellor is there for the whole school community including teachers and parents. The role of the counsellor can vary from day to day. However, they deal with issues such as:

  • Bullying
  • Divorce
  • Sleeping disorders
  • Strategies for doing homework
  • Study skills
  • The dangers of substance abuse
  • Careers
  • Diversity and respect for others
  • Healthy diet
  • Problems at home

Counselors are there to help you cope with life’s challenges. They have special training in helping children to solve problems, make decisions, and stand up for themselves. They take your problem seriously and try to help you find a solution. They also want to help you learn as much in class as you can, be a good contributor to the school community, and be a positive influence on your school environment
