School Routines

1. Times

The school day begins at 8:20am and finishes at 3:15pm (Primary) 3:20 (Secondary)

2. Breaks

Primary students have a break at 10:35am and 12:05pm
Secondary students have a break at 10:25am and 12:45pm

3. Buses

The school provides supervised bus travel to many (not all) city locations.
Any variation to daily travel is notified in writing between home and school.
A Student Behaviour Code exists for bus travel.
Bus costs are currently included as part of the fees.

4. Student Illness

If a child is unable to attend school, parents must phone the school office. Secondary School students will be subject to daily attendance checks. Parents will be contacted if there is an unexplained absence.
Children with a fever, or unable to undertake school work because of illness, will be sent home after contact with parents. In an emergency, parents will be contacted and the school will transport a child to the closest medical treatment centre.

5. Admission to the School

Students are placed in classes on an age appropriate basis. If the school offers a place, a non-refundable confirmation fee is payable. All applicants must complete the Application Form.

6. Classes

Class sizes are generally a maximum of 22 students in the Primary School and 24 in the Secondary School. All classes from K-P3 have a teacher and teacher assistant.

7. Communication Books

Early Childhood & Primary students have a Communication Book which parents must use to notify any variation of routine. Teachers will also use the Communication Book to notify parents of school events and procedures. In Secondary school, students have a Diary for the above purposes.

8. Reporting

In Primary School, there are four formal meetings with teachers per academic year: Meet the Teacher; two Three-way Conferences; and one Student-led Conference.
In Secondary School, there are three formal meetings with teachers per academic year: two Three-way Conferences and one Student-led Conference.
There are two full written reports for all students, at the end of each semester.

9. Books / Text Books

The school provides most stationery for Early Childhood & Primary students. In the Secondary School, students are expected to purchase their own stationery. Textbooks are loaned to students on a short or long-term basis, as necessary. Lost library books must be replaced.

10. Lost Clothing

The Administration Offices maintain Lost Clothing Boxes, which are stored near the Head of Primary office and the Secondary office on the 5th Floor of the Secondary School building.

11. Newsletters

Monthly newsletters are posted on the School website at the beginning of each month. An email message is sent to parents when the newsletter is published. Other important messages are posted on our website. Occasionally, an important message will be sent by SMS to parents. Such messages are brief and will sometimes direct parents to the website for more detailed information. The school publishes a Year Book each June.

12. Meals

Students in K, K1 & K2 are provided with daily meals. Other students either bring lunch or buy it from the school canteen. Order forms for primary school lunches are sent home from the school canteen every week. Forms are also available on the school website.

13. Leaving School Grounds

No student can leave the school grounds during the day without submitting a completed parental consent form.

14. Accidents

If a child has an accident or is ill they are looked after in the Nurse’s Room near the entrance to the canteen and secondary school. Where treatment is required, parents (or nominated emergency contacts) are notified. Parents must ensure they update any changes to contact information.

15. Field Trips

Field Trips are part of the curriculum; they enhance classroom-based learning activities. Information related to field trips will be sent via classroom teachers.

16. Security

15 security guards provide 24 hour security to the school.

17. Birthdays

Students may bring birthday cakes to school to celebrate their birthday. Please ensure the classroom teacher is advised ahead of time through the Communication Book.
