Course Outline - Music

Music classes in Grades 7-9 are designed to develop and enhance musical techniques and application. Students learn the fundamentals of music at the start of each course and learn how to use those fundamentals in a variety of instruments, settings and styles.

Students are encouraged to participate in performances, mainly in a group setting. Music appreciation and developing a critical ear is an integral part of the course. Students keep a workbook as a process journal. Their learning experiences are all recorded here. Students perform in class and also at school events throughout the year.

In grade 10 students are in their pre-IB Diploma year and thus are being prepared more intensively for Diploma Level Music. Solo performances and compositions are added to the programme.
