Course Outline - Visual Arts
Visual Art classes in Grades 7-9 are designed to build the confidence of students as they develop techniques and aesthetic values in both 2D and 3D domains. Two dimensional projects may include drawing, painting, mixed media, graphic design and printmaking. Three dimensional studies include projects in clay, plaster, wood, welded metal and other recycled materials.
Students are encouraged to participate in the choice of media and format according to their individual interpretation of assignments. Assignments are based on an overview of art movements as well as the art of different cultures. Art appreciation and developing a critical voice is an integral part of the course. Students keep a workbook for related research assignments, preparation and experimentation. Student work will exhibit in the Secondary School during the year and at the end of year as part of the whole school art exhibition.
In grade 10 students are in their pre-IB Diploma year and thus are also being prepared more intensively for the option of Diploma Level Art.
