English - Middle Years Programme - MYP

MYP – Language A and Language B (Advanced)

English A and B (advanced) cover the five skill areas of speaking, listening, reading, writing and viewing/representation. The language A programme develops the students’ ability to use and understand English through a range of mainly literary texts, promoting a life-long love of literature and sensitivity towards other cultures. The study of language is integrated with the study of literature. The language B programme empowers students to use English in many real-life situations through the study of text types that meet a broad range of communicative intentions, promoting confidence and expressiveness. There is also some study of literary texts integrated with the study of language.

Assessment

Assessment is ongoing and based on a series of tasks completed throughout the year. Students also engage in self assessment. Only specifically identified tasks are assessed to contribute to recording a final grade for the subject. These are assessed according to the MYP assessment criteria.
