Course Outline - IB Diploma - Business And Management

The IB Diploma programme’s Business and Management syllabus at Higher and Standard level is divided into 4 modules:

  • Module 1 : Introduction to Organizations
  • Module 2 : Marketing
  • Module 3 : Human Resource Management
  • Module 4 : Accounting and Finance

Assessment and Methods of Assessment

The course is assessed both externally and internally in order to arrive at an overall level of 1 to 7 for the subject.

External Assessment - The External Examination papers are as follows:

Internal assessment – There are four major internal assessment points during the course:

All students have to complete a 1,000 – 1,800 word research project on an ongoing business decision currently taking place in a real world situation. The project may also be a research issue involving the company. This counts for 20% of the Diploma mark.

Examinations

  • Internal school examinations take place at the end of year 11 and the trial or ‘mock’ examinations are at the start of semester 2 in year 12.
  • The final IB external examinations take place in May of year 12.
