Integrated Business and Technology - Year 10

Students will study in broad terms the course content of the IB Business and IB ITGS Studies syllabus’s in preparation for years 11 and 12.

Aims

  • To give students an overview of what to expect in the IB Business and IB ITGS courses.
  • To develop student subject specific vocabulary.
  • To develop student skills in gathering and processing information from a range of sources.
  • To help students to get an appreciation of the Real Business and IT Worlds.
  • To help students to make reasoned and informed decisions and apply them to real life situations.
  • To help students develop and use critical thinking skills and apply them to Business and ITGS studies.
  • To help students to develop essay and study skills.

Course Outline

  • Academic Command words for IB and MYP exams (Evaluate, define, discuss ….)
  • IB Essay writing (Harvard style referencing, direct quote, indirect quote, in text citation bibliography entries for various media ….)
  • Advance Web search Strategy
  • Ms Word for academic essay writing
  • Writing abstracts, extracts and summary
  • Using glossaries, index and contents pages
  • Ms Excel for Investments decision making (property, shares, bonds, interests…..)
  • Ms Publisher and Corel draw for business promotion
  • Business communication (memo, reports, mail merging, and task automation )
  • Online marketing, data mining, spyware.
  • Digital business scam (publishing, spoophing, phreaking, salami slicing)

There are four free standing Business modules:
