Information Technology In A Global Society - ITGS

Aims

The Information technology in a Global Society (ITGS) course is the study and evaluation of the impact of information technology (IT) on individuals and society. ITGS is an inter-disciplinary subject. It improves studies with skills in information technology, social science and English language.

Units Of Work

The ITGS program is offered at both Standard level and Higher Level. Samples of units of work include: Digital arts, digital choreography, artificial intelligence, fuzzy logics, simulation, modeling, robotic surgery, cyber warfare, data logging, invisible data collection and software fundamentals.

The program responds to the individual’s interests and future career inspiration. Students will learn a very wide range of applications that focus on different strands which will lead to school certificate of Business Computing, Computer Arts and Design Computers for Humanity Studies and Computer for Science Studies. Student works are assessed by IBO. Students who successfully complete assessments for all four strands will receive an IB ITGS certificate.

Method Of Learning

Daily classroom learning activities include: on-line learning, debating, presentations, discussion, role-play a trial of an IT related legal case. Throughtout the course, students will need to complete projects and essays. The students learn the skills of research, writing, documenting an dcritical thingking as they write formal essays. In order to develop their skills to predict potential future technology developments and identify future business opportunities, students are also asked to critically reviewing the information development trends and social implication of these trends.

External Assessment

Students will be required to sit IBO exams at the end of Year 12.
