Curriculum
The PYP was developed through the vision and effort, sustained over ten years, of the former International Schools Curriculum Project (ISCP). Its purpose was to produce a common international curriculum and to develop international-mindedness on the part of children. It has been offered by the IBO since 1997, and continues to promote inquiry as the leading pedagogical approach.
IBO Mission
The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.
To this end, the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.
These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.
The Learner Profile
The learner profile is the IBO mission statement translated into a set of learning outcomes for the 21st century.
The attributes of the learner profile express the values inherent to the IB continuum of international education.
IB programmes promote the education of the whole person, emphasizing intellectual, personal, emotional and social development.
IB learners strive to be:
- Inquirers
- Knowledgeable
- Thinkers
- Communicators
- Principled
- Open-minded
- Caring
- Risk-takers
- Balanced
- Reflective
Curriculum Model
The PYP Curriculum model is structured by three interrelated questions.

The taught curriculum
How best will we learn?
The assessed curriculum
How will we know what we have learned?
The Essential Elements
The PYP Framework consists of five essential elements.
