End of year letter for Dr Wylie
Dear UPTA Parents,
As the end of the school year is fast approaching, I would like to sincerely thank you for your support and wish you all a wonderful vacation. Much has been achieved this year. There have many highlights across the school. Our Festival of Lights (FOL) was truly amazing. The size of this year’s event surpassed all expectations. Our performing arts continues to grow and be a strength of the school. Schooling at UISG embraces the whole child. here have been many opportunities for students in sporting endeavours. This year we have participated in and hosted a range of sporting tournaments in our local and regional competitions. Our commitment to service through fundraising, service trips and community engagement have provided our students and families with a sense of global responsibility. You can read more about the year’s events at UISG in our 2016/17 Yearbook.
UISG is a well-established International School with a strong reputation, and the only school in the city to offer the IB Continuum - PYP, MYP and DP. Our enrollment continues to grow and is a testimony to our quality programmes. Next year, we will be fully involved in preparing for our CIS/WASC/NCCT and IB PYP/MYP/DP synchronized visit. Thanks to all of those taking part in the survey and those participating in the self-study. This process helps the school move forward in a decisive and positive way.
Over the summer vacation, we have several projects which include improvement to the canteen, renovation of the bathrooms, covering the walkway from the buses to the secondary school and creating a uniform shop. UISG is fortunate to be in such a beautiful location and our campus is the envy of many.
In the new school year, UISG will be introducing its inaugural school uniform. This marks an important stage in the history of UISG. There will be a transition time for students to purchase and wear their uniforms in the new school year. More details will follow.
Now it is the time of year when international schools farewell staff, students and families who leave to move countries and home to take on new adventures and challenges. This year I would like to offer a special farewell to several staff who have been important figures at UISG and members of the leadership team. I would like to farewell Amanda McDonald (Head of Secondary), David Morgan (Assistant Head of Secondary - Teaching and Learning), and Emma Scott (Assistant Head of Primary and PYP Coordinator). Each have been instrumental in the positive development of UISG and have been an important part of our history.
I would like to give a special thanks to Sandrine de Lamarzelle, and Amy Xing who have served as the UPTA Parent Teacher Association Co-Chairs this year. They have been amazing assets to our community and in bringing the school community together. Both, supported by an amazing UPTA team, have developed many initiatives that have benefited our students across the school. I would also like to take the opportunity to warmly welcome Lonneke Bank and Laura Dong, our new UPTA Co-Chairs for the upcoming school year.
Finally, I would like to sincerely thank all staff for their commitment, dedication and contribution to the growth and development of the school. I wish all families a restful, happy and safe vacation. Best wishes to those moving to a new adventure! Please stay in contact with UISG.
Please be reminded that for Year 1 to Year 12 students, school starts on 14th August, and on 16th August for K to K3 students. I look forward to greeting you all at the UPTA Welcome Picnic on 26 August.
Have a wonderful, restful and happy vacation.
Dr. Michael Wylie
