Early Years Mother Tongue Storytelling (Oct 2019)
We had our first K2/K3 storytelling session on September 26th. We had over thirty parent volunteers come to tell stories in their own mother-tongue. Sessions run on a monthly basis throughout the school year. This year we have Putonghua, Cantonese, English, Korean, Japanese, German and Hindi language groups.
As a school with a strong mother-tongue programme starting in K3, it is important for our younger children to be supported in their mother-tongue. We know when the child is confident in his/her mother tongue, the child will achieve well in learning a second or third language.
Preparations for the K/K1 mother tongue storytelling session to start in October is on the way. Lots of parents have signed up to read to our little learners. A second parent letter will be sent home in due time to explain the procedures.
