Head of School Message to UISG Community (Dec 2019)
As we reach the end of this semester, we can celebrate our successes as a learning community, through a range of academic, sporting and creative achievements.
The international Festival of Lights highlighted the talents of our students and the commitments of our staff. Thanks to all of those who supported this event by cooking or selling food, performing, supervising, running activities or helping in other ways. There was an amazing amount of community involvement.
UISG is a vibrant learning environment and has involved the community through PYP learning celebrations and Parent Information Sessions in the primary. We now have broadened our offerings for students with a wide range of after school activities for our Year 1 to 4 students. Our Secondary School students have achieved strong results at both the MYP and DP level. Parents who attended information sessions have improved their understanding of the IB.
Our experiential education programme has enabled students to be involved in camps to many exciting places. The primary programme starts with students in year 2 having a sleep over at school, or a first camping experience to our sister school UISZ as well as our year 6 students taking part in a challenging programme in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Our Year 8 to 10 camps took place in destinations around China. Our Year 7 Camp to Pak Lap will be rescheduled to second semester.
This year we are working together to improve the way we support the environment and raise awareness. Many opportunities arise for students to be creative. Students also had opportunities to engage in service to help our school and support local and global communities. Sporting competitions have involved students from across the school competing with students from other schools in the region. Through the IB curriculum, UISG embraces the uniqueness of each individual student and is committed to their development.
We are now an Apple School with devices rolled out: K-12 Staff Macbook Pro, School-owned iPad K2-Y2, BYOD iPad Y3-Y5 and BYOD Macbook (Air/Pro) Y6-12. The importance of innovation and using devices safely and creatively are paramount in preparing students for the future. I would like to give a big thanks to our teachers and UPTA members for their commitment and dedication this semester to support our students and teachers, providing a world class education. We wish the very best to our Year 12 students who are working so hard in preparation for their final exams in May. All of our best wishes are with you during this important part of your school life.
Some families move at this time of the year and we wish you the very best in your future life journey. Stay in touch. On behalf of the entire community, have a happy Festive Season, a great holiday and Happy New Year 2020.
