K-Y1 Production of The Little Rats (Dec 2019)

Yesterday the K-Y1 production of The Little Rats was a big success! This story was written by our EY Putonghua teacher, Wen Lao Shi, who related it to the upcoming Year of the Rat. Our ‘little rats’ went on a journey to self-discovery. They needed to gain positive energy and powerful traits to help them become confident. The ‘little rats’ stopped at various ‘villages’ and watched the ‘people’ perform. At every ‘village’ they received a magic ball to put into their Jing nang (锦囊) bag. It was the emperor at the end who presented the ‘little rats’ a special scroll that read ‘祝各位鼠年行大运!’ - Wishing you all a lucky Year of the Rat!’.

It was a full house in the Multi-Function Hall on this Tuesday morning. We had parents and Primary students who came to support us. From our youngest K dancers to our Y1 performers it was such a delight to watch. We had our oldest students narrating the story while each year level or class danced, drummed, sang, recited a poem and even performed kung fu and lion dance moves fused with modern music. The teachers and teaching assistants were our choreographers who put endless hours into making this production successful. Also a big thank you to Mrs. Kim (EY Music teacher), He Lao Shi (EY Putonghua maternity cover teacher for Wen Lao Shi), Ms. Cindy-Anne, our EY Visual Arts teacher who made this production come alive! In fact there was collaboration from almost every department of the school. We look forward to an exciting Year 2020. Our Chinese New Year celebrations will continue on January 10th when our EY students get to experience Chinese cultural mini workshops followed by a shared luncheon from our Chinese parents. Happy holidays!
