UISG Travel Advice 预防新型冠状病毒感染的肺炎旅行忠告 (03 Feb 2020)

Pneumonia cases associated with a novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) have been reported in China and many other countries recently. Before the epidemic is under control, we advise you evaluate the risks carefully prior to travelling.

I.Cancel travel if possible.Every newly emerging infectious disease is usually associated with unforeseen events. Measures adopted by the countries and regions to fight the disease may change quickly. These measures may include restricting travel to the epidemic area, quarantine, refusal of guests from the epidemic area by the hotel, activities limitation and scenic spots closing down. Under these circumstances,it is hard to meet your travel expectation.

Travelling abroad, including travelling to Hong Kong and Macau, is far more complicated. Many countries have issued strict quarantine measures, cancelled visa on arrival, and even denied entry to foreign visitors from the epidemic area. If you are lucky enough to be allowed to enter the country (region) of destination, some minor policy changes might interfere with your travel plans. It is possible that you will be isolated for a 14-day medical observation as you are from the first country affected by the 2019-nCoV, though not from the most ‘dangerous’ cities or provinces. You will lose valuable time and experience a heavy financial and emotional burden.

If you become sick during the trip, you will probably have difficulty in accessing the best and most efficient healthcare. Your health will be threatened. The disease might be transmitted and spread furthermore.

II.Pay close attention to the latest updates, including epidemic statistics and travel restrictions. Do not go to the epidemic areas, especially Wuhan, Hubei province.

III.   If you are determined to go for a travel, pay attention to self-protection. Bring some common medicines you use at home, as well as travel-sized skin disinfectants (all liquids stored in containers with a capacity exceeding 100 ml(g) are prohibited from being brought onto the aircraft) , individually packed alcohol cleaning wipes and a thermometer. You should clean your hand whenever it is needed.
Monitor your health during the trip. Follow information released by authoritative departments. Cancel your travel plan once a major outbreak occurred in your destination or a travel warning is issued.
IV. If you have fever or cough during the trip, go to see the doctor as soon as possible.
The biggest treasure is your own health. Thus, Guangzhou Center for Disease Control and Prevention calls on: Stay in Guangzhou, enjoy the travel after the containment of the 2019-nCoV.
