Conference's Aim and Background Information
The flourishing of international education in China has contributed to the development of Chinese language education in a multicultural context and has posed increasing challenges for teachers teaching Chinese language courses in these new non-traditional environments. At the same time, updates to the syllabus taught in international schools together with the introduction of conceptual teaching and of contextualized teaching have provided opportunities to engage in teaching in different ways and present possibilities for the use of innovative strategies in Chinese language teaching. To address these issues, the first “Frontier” Chinese Teaching In-depth Seminar will be taking place in southern China. It aims to provide a diverse, first-class communication and development platform for Chinese language educators from around the world, and a forum to discuss new directions for Chinese language teaching.
Today, assisted by the increased influence of globalization, international schools have grown and expanded into many major cities. The increasing number of students studying Chinese in a multicultural, non-traditional context means that the school teaching environment is becoming more and more complicated. Exploration of cutting-edge, effective Chinese language teaching ideas and methods in the international educational environment is an issue of primary concern for teachers on this front line. Against this background, UISG, which has more than 20 years of experience in international school education, is using its know-how accumulated over the years to bring together great talent, from all over the world, to participate in this seminar which will be held on the beautiful UISG campus.
The conference is fortunate to have secured the participation of senior figures in Chinese language education from mainland China and Hong Kong. They will share their thoughts on leading concepts in Chinese language teaching in the context of international education, their views on the most efficient teaching methods and on the teaching strategies which typically achieve the most successful outcomes. Main topics of the seminar will include the development of Chinese mother-tongue teaching in the bilingual environment of primary and secondary departments of international/bilingual schools and breakthroughs in Chinese language acquisition teaching. Participants will have the opportunity to conduct in-depth exchanges and discussions on relevant topics and with keynote speakers.
The “Frontier” is the core theme of our conference. Senior guest speakers from far and wide will bring participants face to face with today’s "Frontier" teaching method and concepts from around the world. We hope that this seminar will empower participants and enable more teachers to put aside some traditional ideas and move their teaching practice forward towards the "Frontier". The academic exchanges should be full of rewards.
