My family and I spent five years at UISZ. From the start, we felt welcome by colleagues, admin staff, students, and parents; it wasn’t difficult to feel at home. Every one of us made long-lasting friendships and grew as individuals. At UISZ, our daughter learned to swim, ride a bicycle and developed academic, artistic and interpersonal skills. As educators, my wife and I were fortunate to share with devoted teachers and principled students in an environment where challenge and respect co-existed to help each member of the community develop as life-long learners. Mauricio My Life in UISZC I came to a new world, when I arrived in UISZC. It had a different culture, language, people, and weather. It was China. WOW! I arrived in 2011 and was just 4 years old. I came into a kindergarten, new home and had new friends. My point is: I was little and terrified! I came into the classroom where my teacher was Mrs. Morrisroe and my friends where Anya, Alicia, and Scarlet. I was nervous about making friends because I’m a bit shy, but in Utahloy it was so very easy, even if I didn’t think of the person as a friend, they acted caring and generous so I’m really happy about that, this is an advantage that UISZC has! I think that all I need to say is that Utahloy Zengcheng in a great school! Sofia
My name is Gavin Fuller and I have been the UISZ college counsellor since I arrived in China with my wife and daughter in July 2016.
Originally from the United Kingdom, I continue to be incredibly excited about the developments we have already made in terms of our university preparation and believe the alumni association will enhance our provision even more.
As I will discuss further in my short article, the proof of a successful alumni lies in their ability to make a difference at an operational level. Unfortunately, many alumni associations often fall short of their original intentions and may not be as useful as organisations may have first thought.
Having met three of our alumni (who travelled a very long way to come and talk to me), we clearly have a fantastic opportunity to harness and utilise the huge experience and knowledge our past students are willing to share. The enthusiasm and desire of our alumni to support our students will be of huge benefit to everyone.
Although this is only my second year at UISZ, it feels as if I have been part of the community for a much longer time. The boarding opportunity we offer creates a unique environment that enables our students to learn skills they would find hard to develop anywhere else (these skills also happen to be perfectly suited for life at university and beyond!).
In terms of university preparation, our aim is to ensure each student is fully supported in their effort to attend their first-choice university and course. We already have a lot to be thankful for as our alumni attend some of the best universities around the world. Our current year 12 continue this trend and we are celebrating new offers as they come in each week.
Our association with BridgeU as one of their ambassador schools places us firmly at the forefront of university preparation and admissions. BridgeU is leading the way in university preparation and guidance software. Their unique algorithms provide students with independent results for courses at universities worldwide; successfully matching both the student’s strengths and interests. We look forward to forging the partnership with our alumni and BridgeU to develop the platform and consolidate our position of providing a world class university preparation program.
The unique position of working in a truly international school means that our students can talk their university and career plans through with experienced and professional staff from all around the world. It really is inspiring to be part of such a vibrant culture and I am very excited about the next stage of building for the future.
I look forward to meeting you at our open day in April where I will be running a university preparation workshop. In the meantime, please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to discuss any aspect of university or career preparation.
I started my journey in Utahloy International School Zengcheng back in 2011 when I was invited to be part of this amazing community as a teacher and a parent. Since then I have taken great pleasure in participating in the constant growth of the school and community along with my family. In the school community and safe environment, my daughters have been growing as multilingual speakers with a high proficiency level of English and Portuguese, their mother tongue. It has been a wonderful journey where the girls have the opportunity to learn through a holistic approach and become global citizens with the conscious that they hold the future in their hands and they are capable of making the world a better place. As a teacher, I am grateful for all the opportunities the school has provided me to grow in my career with all the support I needed and thanks to this brilliant community I am now doing my PhD in International education. We are now starting a new era in our history with the construction of a new site environmentally friendly and I am very proud to be part of this community and to have the opportunity to contribute with it.
