Community Action & Service (CAS)

The Diploma is a complete package and the goal is to educate the whole person and facilitate becoming responsible and compassionate global citizens. The CAS requirement is founded in sharing time, energy and talents with others. This takes students a step further than pure academics and books.

CAS activities are designed to challenge and extend the individual. Service, often the most transforming aspect of CAS, might be at the school, in the local community, or on a national or international level. This is doing something for others with others. All our Grade 11 students participate in an overseas trip to Vietnam, Laos or Thailand and assist disadvantaged peoples by completing a building project. However, CAS is much more. Creativity might include engaging in theatre, art or dance, preferably in a group. Action could be participation in a team or individual sport, expeditions or camping.

There are self evaluations and activity supervisor's evaluations of the student's commitment to CAS projects, which are monitored by the IBO. The students are required to complete an average of 3 to 4 hours a week over 18 months.
