The International Baccalaureate Diploma (IBDP)

The IB Diploma at UISZ is a two year post-16 programme of study that is considered excellent preparation for university and vocational pursuits worldwide. It is an academically challenging programme and internationally recognized for its ability to help prepare students to succeed at under-graduate level. We aim to prepare students for success in higher education and beyond by encouraging students to become "active, compassionate and lifelong learners" (IB mission statement). DP teachers therefore play a crucial role as teachers of learners, not simply teachers of content.

Many Universities have established admission and scholarship policies that recognize the qualities of students who have completed the IB Diploma programme. Our IB Diploma results are consistently higher than other IB world schools, and our students are widely accepted at renowned universities across the world.

We have been accredited to deliver the IB Diploma programme since 2005. In that time our students have achieved some outstanding results that have placed our graduates amongst the world's highest achievers. We pride ourselves on the supportive school structures, highly trained teachers and small class sizes that have enabled our students to gain this success. The option of boarding also gives our students the edge with strict study schedules, teacher supervision and evening classes in specialist subjects. Indeed, it is the individual attention that each IB diploma student receives both academically and pastorally, that sets our Diploma programme apart from its competitors.

The Curriculum

In the IB Diploma Programme students study 3 subjects at Higher Level and three subjects at Standard Level.  The subjects are divided into 6 groups of which students choose one from each group.  The subjects currently offered at UISZ are:

In addition to the six courses, the programme includes three core requirements which intend to expand students’ educational experiences and challenge them to use their knowledge in different ways.

The Extended Essay (EE) is a requirement for students to engage in an independent research project of their choice. Students must choose from the subjects on offer from the IB and write a 4,000 word in-depth investigation.

Theory of knowledge (TOK) is a course focused on critical thinking which encourages students to contemplate the nature of knowledge.

Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) encourages students to get involved in creative pursuits, physical activities and community service projects in the local, national and international context.

UISZ stresses the importance of the three core requirements as it is here where students are able to learn valuable life skills that are easily transferrable to the real world and University. Our CAS programme has progressed as an integral part of school life at UISZ, it offers a wide range of co-curricular activities and community service projects that allow students to choose activities they are interested in or create their own CAS activity.



Individualised Programmes – Full Diploma or Diploma Programme Course

All Year 11 and 12 students at UISZ participate in the IB Diploma Programme. Students will be guided by the University Counsellor and IB Coordinator to use their strengths to design their personalized programme of study. Future ambitions and university requirements are fundamental when selecting Diploma courses, this is why we have an excellent college counselling service for both students and their parents. Students are advised on choices between the full Diploma Programme, this includes the three core requirements of EE, TOK and CAS, and the Diploma Programme course, this consists of certificates in individual subjects and successful completion of CAS. There are some academic requirements to be eligible for the full diploma programme, students who do not quite qualify for the full Diploma will graduate with the Utahloy Diploma and IB Diploma programme course certificates, which are also well recognised by many leading Universities.
