International Baccalureate Diploma

The IB Diploma is an internationally recognised pre-Univesity qualification accepted in more than 60 countries. The aim of the Diploma is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world.

 

To gain a Diploma students must successfully complete six separate courses covering a range of academic disciplines. They must also complete three compulsory componets which included an extended essay, the Theory of Knowledge and Creativity, Action and service.

The IB Diploma consists of 6 subject areas: (subjects in brackets are the ones currently offered at UISZC)

1st Language                                         (English, Korean and Chinese)

2nd Language                                        (English B and French Ab Initio)

Individuals and societies                        (Geography, ITGS and Economics)

Science                                                 (Chemistry, Physics and Biology)

Maths                                                   (Studies and Standard Level)

Arts and Electives.                                (Visual Art and Physics)

 

As well as the 6 subjects students have to study Theory of Knowledge (2 lessons per week), complete the CAS (Creativity, Action and Service) program and write an Extended Essay (4000 words) on a topic of the students choosing.

All students must study 3 subjects at Higher Level and 3 at Standard Level. Currently a Higher level subject has 5 lessons per week and a Standard Level has 3 lessons per week.

In order to achieve an IB Diploma students must be successfully complete as parts of the course. Each of the six subject is assessed on a scale of 1-7 and TOK and The Extended Essay are worth 3 points between them. A student is given an IB Diploma score out of 45 points (6 x 7 + 3), a minimum of 24 points is required to receive an IB Diploma.

The IB Diploma seeks to develop students with the qualies described in their Learner Profile.
