All students at UISZ have the opportunity to take part in our Week without Walls (WWW) programme, a progressive experiential learning programme, which supports the continued development of the IB learner profile characteristics within students, through environmental outdoor education. We see this as an invaluable component of our curriculum where students grow as they face new challenges, learn problem solving skills, improve decision making abilities and build new friendships. Each camp provides opportunities to strengthen and promote teamwork, improve student leadership and develop many important life skills, a time which is not soon forgotten by all those involved.
In the secondary school WWW is a weeklong expedition where students travel to unique areas around China, Hong Kong and, in Grade 11, overseas to help with a community service project as part of their CAS programme. The Grade 12 camp is slightly shorter with the focus being to prepare students for the future.
In the primary school WWW grows from a 2 day /1 night programme in Grades 1 and 2, as an on campus introduction to the programme, into a 3 day / 2 night programme in Grades 3 and 4 and up to a 4 day / 3 night programme in Grade’s 5 and 6. Students from Grade’s 3 – 6 will travel to various regions of Hong Kong and China to participate in adventurous activities and learn about the environment and outdoors and how it relates to each interdisciplinary theme.
